Sauce Gardner blasts Ja Morant: Everybody have guns bro
New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner has subtly criticized Ja Morant, the Memphis Grizzlies star, for his behavior involving weapons on social media.
Gardner, who was named the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year, took to Twitter to indirectly address Morant's habit of flaunting guns. His tweet pointed out that many people own guns, so there's no need to showcase them on Instagram Live.
"Everybody have guns bro," Gardner tweeted. "No need to post it on IG live lol."
Gardner's comment was not unreasonable, considering that the Second Amendment grants Americans the right to bear arms. However, it was an ill-advised move on Morant's part, given that his year has already been plagued by negative attention related to firearms.
Shortly after posting his tweet, Gardner decided to delete it. According to a report by Grayson Weir from OutKick, Morant was suspended by the Grizzlies on Sunday following the release of his Instagram video brandishing a gun.
This isn't the first time Gardner has called out Morant for behaving like a thug despite being a highly paid professional athlete.
In a tweet on February 6, Gardner expressed his frustration, stating that if athletes truly came from difficult backgrounds, they wouldn't need to constantly prove their toughness.
"Pro Athletes, if you really from the trenches, you ain't gotta prove it every time you know eyes on you," he wrote.
"A lot of y'all ain't even like that for real and THATS FINE! All your life, you grind to go pro, make it pro & start making millions, and then turn gangsta? That's backwards."
Morant's behavior has marred what has otherwise been a disastrous year for him.
